Dear Friends, We are reaching out to at a very critical time at our shelter. The dogs desperately need our help at this time. We are very close to disastrous food crisis for the dogs. The dogs at Scooby are fed a diet of raw chicken, ground up and mixed with bread and also dry dog food on days when we don’t have chicken. We get the chicken for free but there is now a new law that is being passed in Spain that all chicken carcasses must be destroyed and cannot be used by anyone. This is a huge waste and also a very big problem for Scooby, because this was our source of free food at the shelter since the beginning. As you can imagine, feeding over 300 dogs on a daily basis is a lot food. There is no possible way that we can afford to purchase dog food for this many animals. We are working on putting a news update on our website asking for donations to buy food so we can feed the dogs that are currently at the shelter. Of course donations of dog food are accepted as well. Sadly, the reality is, if we cannot feed the animals, we can’t operate, and if we can’t operate, we cannot continue to do the work that we have been doing. Even worse, we will have euthanize dogs that have simply no chance for adoption as we won’t be able to afford to maintain such large numbers at the shelter. If you have room in your shelters, foster homes, your homes, please look at our adoption pages. The more dogs that we can get adopted and out of the shelter, the better. Your support, no matter how big or small can literally save a life in this situation. We are looking into several options to this situation to see if we purchase the carcasses for a discounted price and other alternatives. But as you know, these things take time and at this moment, we don’t have time. The dogs need to eat. We need you. Please help us during this difficult time. Thank you. The Scooby Team

Some of you have received an email (or two, or three
) regarding several greys that need our help.Thanks to those of you who have responded so far!!!! A 13 1/2 yr old girl has shown improvement with alternative treatment and needs a few more. Two senior greys need a medical checkup including blood workups. We all know how difficult it is out there. As a reminder, GAN does not use any grant money, general donations or auction money for individuals. Donations, unless specified they can be used for individuals, are used only for adoption groups. I'm sending a hug to all of you!

One of our own is in need of our help and prayers. Today Cindy Swanson and her family suffered the tragic loss of their home due to a fire. Fortunately their son, Trevor, woke up and was able to escape the home. The other three boys had already left for school, Bill had left the home to run some errands and returned about 45 minutes later. Imagine the horror returning home to find your home engulfed in flames. Trevor has been admitted to the Burn Center at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill with 2nd and 3rd degree burns to his feet and hands. I hope to get updated information on Trevor tomorrow and will let anyone interested know. Information I received today says the American Red Cross has assisted the family with securing a hotel room for the next three days and their insurance company will be at the home tomorrow to start with help. Sadly several of their beloved family pets did not make it out of the home. All of us that know Cindy, Bill and their kids have seen first hand the love showered on their pets. For those of you that have asked, the dogs I have been advised are safe are Greyhounds - GiGi, Maddie, Buffy, Trez and a brindle colored rescue Greyhound - a rescue mixed breed, a male Basset Hound, and Chase, a Whippet we co-own with Cindy. Still missing and we are praying escaped the house with Trevor are two Whippet girls, Kaitlin and Eve. Notices have been sent to local veterinary hospitals, pounds and rescue groups about these two girls. Please keep positive thoughts for these two Whippets. The dogs are currently being cared for by friends and I will advise anyone interested if there are any needs for the dogs. I know all of their dog supplies, collars, leads, beds, have been lost in the fire. For those you want to help Bill, Cindy and the boys, I've been told by others that have lived through simular situations, what is needed MOST right now is monetary donations. Imagine losing everything from your most important documents, your family pictures, your kid's toys, your clothes, loved pets and even your toothbrush. While the house can be rebuilt in time, the number of personal items needed for a family with 4 boys are many and best purchased by their parents. If anyone wants to send a donation please do so - I am looking into a Pay Pal account but several people have said they are not comfortable sending money through this.
